1956-Skydiving Defined

Jacques-André Istel, D-2 pinned down the phrase “Skydiving” : Istel wrote in the April '56 issue of Flying Magazine that "Sky diving refers to the technique of maintaining absolute control of one's body during free fall before the parachute is opened." He goes on to state that not one American knew how to skydive, but the Russians and French did, so he learned from the latter in 1955. Young and Istel enrolled at a state-sponsored French school.
